BURY FARM PARLOUR
BACKGROUND
Bury Farm Parlour opened on 20th May 2003 following its conversion from a disused milking parlour into a viable and attractive meeting space.
The building had reached the stage of needing some serious repair work to avoid its collapse.
The work was undertaken with the help of a grant from DEFRA under their 'Rural Enterprise Scheme,' which is aimed at aiding the regeneration of rural communities. This inspired a new future for the building as a resource for the village and a grant was applied for to enable three new uses - to host educational visits, to house a holiday play-scheme and for general 'village-hall' type use.
FACILITIES
The Parlour facilities are now available for hire as a venue for meetings, conferences, private functions, training courses, educational visits and other events.
The venue is 70 square metres in total and is available for hire on weekdays, evenings and weekends. Facilities include:
- a main 'meeting' room which could be split into two delegate areas,
- a modern and well stocked kitchen,
- disabled facilities,
- free and easily accessible parking,
- rural location,
- TV, DVD and Video,
- laptop,
- telephone line,
- OHP,
- Multimedia Projector.
Refreshments and lunches can be provided at an additional cost per delegate.
Examples of usage:
Meetings/Conferences: Venue for full or half day meetings/conferences. Can hold up to 50 people depending on room layout.
Training: The Parlour has been used for training and practice sessions including first-aid training, computer courses and band practice and provides ideal facilities for a training venue.
Educational Visits: Bury Farm has hosted many educational visits over the years which have increased in number since the development of the Parlour. The Farm can cater for any age group from first/primary schools all the way through to secondary and college education. The Farm provides an excellent centre for learning as it covers many different subject areas from farming and conservation, weather and climate, science and geography, all the way through the food chain through to the bakery products which can be seen at Bury Farm Bakery based at Bury Farm. Educational visits can be tailor-made to cover topics included on the current school syllabus for groups for various age groups. Parlour Playscheme: has been developed as a holiday provision for children between the ages of 4 and 12 operating in school holidays and half-terms supervised by experienced and well qualified staff. The Playscheme will enable parents to work during the holidays knowing their children are in suitable childcare. Situated in Bury Farm Parlour, it is open from 8.30am until 4.00pm Monday to Friday. We are OFSTED (Office For Standards in Education) registered and has received funding from NOF (New Opportunities Fund) through Hertfordshire County Council to supply a wider range of facilities and equipment for children between the ages of 4 and 12. Children take part in a wide range of activities both indoors and outdoors in the countryside including craft and cooking, drama workshops and games, nature walks and outdoor games. If you are interested in your child attending the Playscheme and would like to know more about dates of the next Playscheme and daily rates, please contact us. Early booking is essential as the playscheme has become very popular. We accept Busy Bee Childcare Vouchers.
The next holiday playscheme is scheduled for CHRISTMAS - Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd & Wednesday 23rd December 2009. 
HIRE COSTS FOR BURY FARM PARLOUR:
Hire Costs for Meetings/Conferences/Training days:
- Full Day (9am-5pm) £95.00 + vat
- Half Day (9am-1pm OR 1pm-5pm) £60.00 + vat
Extra cost for morning and afternoon refreshments £3.00 per delegate (£1.50 Half-day rate)
Lunch can be provided please ask for menu details.
All prices are subject to VAT @ 17.5%
£75.00 + vat returnable deposit payable on booking.
Hire Costs for Private Functions (room hire only):
- Set rate for 4 hours £50.00 + vat
- £12.50 + vat per hour thereafter
- £50.00 +vat returnable deposit for breakages and cleaning.
There are special rates for Nuthampstead residents and Bury Farm staff.
